Bringing The Sights and Sounds of Nature to Your Screen
A Butterfly Year
All 58 Mainland British Butterfly Species in One Year
Filmed Edited & Presented by Paul Wetton
Paul spent six months in 2010, travelling the British countryside from the south coast of England to western Scotland, capturing the fifty eight breeding butterfly species of mainland Britain on film.
This DVD shows a personal account of these fascinating and colourful insects. All butterflies were filmed on location in Britain, using a broadcast quality digital video format.
Flights into Spring
The first film begins with a journey to the East Rutland site of Ketton Quarry in late April, searching for Grizzled Skipper and Green Hairstreak. The first disc takes a look at twenty eight butterfly species, ending in mid June at Strumpshaw Fen, in the Norfolk Broads, watching Britain’s largest butterfly, the fabulous brightly coloured Swallowtail. (Running time: 1 Hour 16 minutes).
On Summer's Breeze
In the second film the journey continues, heading north into Cumbria for specialities such as the Northern Brown Argus, High Brown Fritillary, Large Heath and the rare and elusive Mountain Ringlet. On the second disc we encounter the remaining thirty species of butterfly to be found regularly in mainland Britain, ending with a species that travels from as far afield as north Africa each year to reach our shores, the bright black and yellow migrant Clouded Yellow. (Running time: 1 Hour 15 minutes).
Good enough for the BBC - Brown Hairstreak footage shown on these DVD's was used by the BBC to illustrate the adult butterflies during a Countryfile program, looking for Brown Hairstreak eggs in the Blackdown Hills, shown on 5th February 2012.
"A Butterfly Year by Paul Wetton raises the bar in terms of high quality video footage of my favourite subject - the butterflies of the British Isles. Complemented with the author's own commentary and original observations, this is a visual feast for nature lovers everywhere. - Pete Eeles, UK Butterflies webmaster and Chairman of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight branch of Butterfly Conservation"

This production was filmed using a broadcast quality digital format. The footage has been captured onto two DVD's showing approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes of high quality uncompressed digital video.
During the production of these films I concentrated on capturing wonderful quality images of these beautiful insects. However, using the DVD menus, these films can also be used as a quick reference guide to all 58 of the butterfly species they contain.
